In this fast paced technological and internet world, old school MLM (Multi-level marketing) business owners are struggling to survive in the business.

Multi level marketing was a revolutionary concept and business model when it was introduced many decades ago and many embraced it with open arms. Lot of people used this business model as a vehicle to accomplish their dreams. There are countless success stories of people who have become successful through MLM business opportunity and there are countless people who lost thousands of dollars and gone through several years of frustration.

Even though anybody can become successful in MLM business, it requires certain type of personality. Once you join in an MLM business, you have to begin to develop the personality that is required to become successful in MLM. Some of these personality traits include speaking to the people in person and over the phone, handling the rejection (this is biggie), buying the products from your own MLM business etc. Many people want to be successful but they don't want to change. If that is the case, multilevel marketing business might not work for them.

Even now, nearly after half a century of MLM inception, many companies still use marketing methods devised for multilevel marketing decades ago. The main advertising method for MLM is word of mouth. MLM companies thrive on people referring the people they know - family, friends and acquaintances. Once people run out of family and friends, they may approach other people and see if they are interested in MLM business opportunity. If a person has a challenge in talking to people and exposing the business, he will have hard time building his MLM or network marketing business.

Developing trust and building relationship have been corner stone in any business in order to sustain for a long term. MLM business owners earn enough trust so that people join with them when they show the business presentation. From then onwards they develop relationship with the people in their team.

There is saying in MLM business world which goes like "people don't join in business, they join you". That is so true.

Is MLM slowly losing it's glory? I think so. The technology and the times we live in now have made the traditional MLM methods difficult to implement. Two or three decades ago people used to be more responsive to each other and social interaction used to be more. Now it is difficult to find people outside except in invitation based parties and get togethers. Many people spend most of their leisure time sitting on the computer (no offence to the person reading this hub) and virtually interacting with other people on the internet.

Having said that, still it is possible to succeed in MLM and many people are building successful network marketing businesses. There will be people who will join in MLM business after today and become successful in next 2, 5 or 10 years. I can assure you one thing. Whether you succeed in MLM or not, it is going to leave you as a better person, may be better prepared for another business opportunity you are going to involve some time in the future. Because the investment you make in yourself, educating and learning will never be wasted.
